No explanation has been found for portraits no. 1-16 appearing on border, opposite to the same no. near the map's neatline. Numbering may refer to key from larger publication from which map was removed.

- Shows railroads converging in Richmond, major roads, rivers, marsh areas, names of cities and towns, with Richmond at its center, Washington, D.C. to the north, Staunton and Lynchburg to the west, Chesapeake Bay to the east, and border of N.C. to the south.
