About This Map
Old map of Dinwiddie County, United States, Virginia.

This map depicts the Five Forks area of Dinwiddie County, Va., where Confederate forces under Gen. George E. Pickett tried to hold off the Union advance on Petersburg and the important South Side Railroad. Included are Hatcher's Run, the Appomattox River, Petersburg, Dinwiddie Court House, and the Weldon Railroad.
Union forces involved included Warren's Fifth Corps infantry and Sheridan's cavalry. Accused by Sheridan of insubordination and failure to cooperate, Warren was removed from command during the height of battle.
Created by Robert Knox Sneden in 04-01.
